Position Overview
The Sr. Demand Planner will play a strategic role in driving supply chain efficiency and product availability by developing, optimizing, and maintaining accurate demand forecasts across multiple sales channels and product categories. This individual will be responsible for consolidating business intelligence, historical trends, and market data to generate actionable insights that inform inventory planning, procurement, and production decisions.
In addition to supporting internal manufacturing schedules, this role will also be instrumental in planning demand for externally sourced products, coordinating with suppliers, and aligning timelines across both sourcing paths.
The successful candidate will combine strong analytical capabilities with cross-functional collaboration skills to help streamline the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process and improve forecast accuracy, inventory performance, and service levels.
What you’ll be doing
Forecasting & Demand Planning
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve demand forecasts at the SKU, category, and brand level, at weekly, monthly, and quarterly levels of detail.
- Balance sales history, recent trends, planned promotions, and assortment changes to build baseline forecasts.
- Integrate inputs from Finance, Commercial, Marketing, and Product teams to craft initial plans, and to adjust forecasts in-season, based on sales performance, market intelligence, upcoming campaigns, assortment changes (additions/deletions), consumer behavior, and supply chain disruptions.
- Communicate forecast adjustments, as well as the root causes, with all key stakeholders.
S&OP Process
- Lead the monthly S&OP cycle end to end, driving consensus and clearance of key decisions. Prepare forecasts, variance analyses, and supply/demand balancing recommendations.
- Present forecast summaries, risks, and opportunities to leadership during planning meetings and cross-functional reviews.
- Support inventory and supply planning teams with demand inputs to ensure sufficient production and procurement coverage, while minimizing obsolescence and overstock.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with internal manufacturing teams to coordinate demand plans with production capacity, raw material lead times, and labor scheduling.
- Partner with procurement and sourcing functions to ensure vendor capacity and delivery schedules align with demand requirements.
- Align efforts with product development teams to build launch forecasts, phase-in/phase-out strategies, and manage demand transitions.
Performance Analysis & Reporting
- Track forecast accuracy and inventory KPIs such as stockouts, excess inventory, service level, and turns to identify opportunities to improve processes.
- Perform root cause analysis on forecast errors and develop corrective actions to continuously improve performance.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Tableau for real-time visibility into demand trends and performance.
Strategic Planning Support
- Contribute to annual and seasonal business planning cycles by providing data-driven demand projections.
- Build demand scenarios to support contingency planning, capacity planning, and supply chain risk mitigation.
- Support financial planning teams with revenue forecasts and operational inputs for budgeting processes.
- Any other duties needed to help drive to our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Company’s Values.
Is this role for you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 8-10 years of end-to-end experience in demand planning, supply chain forecasting, or inventory management - ideally within a company that manufactures and sources externally.
- Preferred certifications: APICS CSCP, CPIM, or ISM CPSM.
- Strong communications skills, written and verbal, to facilitate effective cross-functional partnerships.
- Proficiency with demand planning or ERP software (e.g., SAP IBP, Oracle Demantra, NetSuite, Anaplan, o9, etc.).
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data modeling. Experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is highly desirable.
