Job Description\n
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a WV or compact license and critical care expertise for a 13-week night-shift assignment.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
- Work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within a hospital acute care setting
- Unit has 18 beds, expanding to 27 beds
- Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics with complex, life-threatening conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are generally 1:2, with occasional 1:3 in overflow or PCU downgrades
- PM/night shifts, three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend, and rotation for major holidays
- No call or standby required
- Floating required to Stepdown, and less frequently to Med-Surg/Telemetry or ICU/Stepdown patients in the ED
- Travelers float in rotation but are not always first to float
- Unit uses Epic EMR system
- Critical equipment includes BiPap, Cpap, mechanical ventilators (via Trach and ET tube), telemetry, IV pumps, and specialty beds
- RNs titrate critical drips such as Levophed, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, and Insulin
- Telemetry monitoring with RNs responsible for reading strips
- RNs provide care to critically ill patients, including those with sepsis, acute MI, renal issues, post-vascular procedures, stroke, TIA, seizures, lumbar drains, ARDS, and CV procedures
- Charge nurse primarily without patients is available and house supervisor is onsite 24/7
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 but not stationed on the ICU unit
- Scrub color is solid navy for RNs with specific guidelines for undershirts and outerwear; closed-toed shoes required
- Full day hospital and nursing orientation with two 12-hour precepted shifts provided
- RNs must complete an abbreviated skills checklist within 90 days of start date
- Holiday and weekend work rotation is required with core staff
- No travel duos will be accepted
- Former employees must have a two-year break from any WVU Medicine location before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may not work at WVU Medicine facilities for more than one year cumulatively without a two-year break
- Local travelers within 50 miles are not accepted (subject to facility policies)
- PM shift positions are available exclusively

- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum two years of recent ICU/critical care experience
- Prior travel nursing experience in ICU required
- Certifications required: BLS and ACLS (AHA)
- Preferred certifications: PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
- Experience with CRRT, IABP, and Impella preferred
- Ability to manage invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilators, and critical medication drips
- Ability to float to Stepdown and Med-Surg/Telemetry units as needed
