Position Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for identifying, qualifying, and securing new business for Sterling Transportation. Position requires maintaining close contact with new and existing customers through the development of strong working relationships, troubleshooting issues and ensuring customer satisfaction by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Secures ongoing and new business from existing and prospective customers by means of field visiting at customer's facility and maintaining close contact via multiple communication channels
- Documents all call activity and opportunities in CRM daily.
- Identifies and develops business opportunities to customer requirements/request via field and tele sales efforts.
- Monitors account productivity.
- Secures opportunities to quote on customer requirements.
- Establishes professional customer/vendor relationships with appropriate personnel at all applicable department levels.
- Identify and qualify prospects – develop customer service requirements and solicit business.
- Provides timely rate quote follow-up with customers. Manages credit process for new customer set up and assist in collection efforts when needed.
- Creates, manages, and insures rate and service agreements for new and existing customers.

- Insure customer rating is accurate to agreements in place or quotes given prior to shipping
- Insure rates are applied so invoicing can finalize
- Actively sell all Sterling services to include:

- LTL, FTL, P&D, Drayage, & CFS
- Participate and present as needed for department and group sales meetings.
- Performs all assigned duties with minimal supervision in the assigned sales territory.
- Provides a sales forecast monthly.
- Travel as necessary on a limited and approved basis.
- Represents Sterling Transportation at industry events, trade shows and meetings.
- Cultivates a Positive and Enduring Relationship with Customers and Vendors.
- Handles special assignments and projects as required.
Expectations:
- First 90 Day Focus: Understand all of Sterling offerings; solicit new business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of personal computers and facility with common business applications, including both spreadsheet and word processing software (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organization, Time Management, presentation Skills (Power Point)
- Sound business judgment, quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong work ethic, characterized by initiative, drive, and goal oriented.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma Required or BA degree in logistics or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years of outside sales experience
- May require some travel (domestic) on an as needed basis.
- Experience in Transportation sales is preferred by not required.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
