Key Responsibilities

  • Assist welders in preparing materials, equipment, and work areas for welding projects
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to understand project requirements
  • Measure, cut, and shape materials according to specifications
  • Set up welding equipment, including power sources, electrodes, and gas supplies
  • Clean and prepare metal surfaces for welding
  • Hold and position workpieces during welding operations
  • Perform basic welding tasks under supervision
  • Conduct post-weld cleaning and finishing operations
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and adherence to specifications
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures
  • Assist in inventory management of welding supplies and materials
  • Participate in ongoing training and skill development programs

QualificationsRequired:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in basic welding techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)
  • Willingness to work in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise)
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible hours when needed

Preferred:

  • Completion of a welding program or apprenticeship
  • Previous experience as a welder helper or in a similar role
  • Familiarity with various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick)
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and material properties
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Forklift certification
