Job Summary

This role will provide oversight and supervision in our SMART (Sexual Medicine, Acute Rapid Treatment) Clinic for acute health concerns. The supervisor will collaborate with the care team to ensure linkage to primary, behavioral health, SUD, and/or dental care, PrEP navigation, STI/HIV testing, STI/HIV counseling, STI treatment administration and scheduling, and other clinic needs. This position also collaborates with a healthcare team to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. Must be comfortable working with diverse patients and staff and provide services in accordance with Whitman-Walker Health’s mission.

Role Specific Primary Essential Duties:

  • Provide oversight for administrative support using all required modalities including but not limited to scheduling as needed, scanning, and uploading patient documents, obtaining clinician signatures, and coordinating the completion of all required forms for procedures, prior authorizations, and radiology and specialty referrals.
  • Daily Team Review of clinical schedule to promote efficiency, communication, and advanced preparation among all members of the medical team.
  • Use independent judgment to adapt workflow and troubleshoot issues as they arise during SMART Clinic.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of SMART Clinic Coordinator(s) and keep their training up to date.
  • Assists in follow-up and linkage to primary, behavioral, SUD, PrEP Clinic, and/or dental care for SMART appointment visits, including handoff to care navigation, nurse care managers, PrEP navigators, and other support services at WWH.
  • Support funded research and surveillance projects within the department.
  • Oversee STI kit-making and organize volunteer kit-making events.
  • Place standing orders per protocol for routine STI/HIV screening.
  • Provide negative laboratory testing results to patients.
  • Delegate's completion of monthly STI-positive reports to be submitted to DC DOH and HIV-positive tests submitted as needed to DC DOH and CDC database.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities at Whitman-Walker.
  • Work is integrated between all WWH departments and outside agencies as clinically appropriate.
  • Efficiently and accurately documents and maintains records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) based on WWH guidelines and standards.
  • Answers telephone and intercom calls for the SMART clinic and provides information or relays messages to clients and medical staff.
  • Routinely participates in monthly/weekly interdisciplinary SMART team meetings.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in a medical setting is required.
  • 2 years of experience working with a broadly diverse population and the ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals are required.
  • 2 years of experience working with people living with HIV or issues related to HIV care preferred.
