ROLE SUMMARY

The Academic Technology Specialist is responsible for driving student digital confidence and technical proficiency to ensure academic excellence. This role leads the design and execution of technical skill-building and barrier-removal strategies, ensuring strong outcomes for students and alignment with EDvance's practice-based, educator-centered model. The role contributes to building systems that support student success as EDvance scales.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Impact and Outcomes

  • Drive seamless student persistence by ensuring 100% technical readiness through the design and execution of comprehensive onboarding and system verification.
  • Improve student retention and digital literacy by developing and delivering responsive technical curriculum and workshops across in-person, remote, and hybrid formats.
  • Identify and mitigate technical barriers to student progress by proactively addressing trends surfaced
  • Monitor student engagement data to adjust support strategies, ensuring that technical challenges do not become a bottleneck for academic completion.

Program and Functional Ownership

  • Design and implement scalable technical onboarding systems that ensure consistency and quality for every incoming student cohort.
  • Implement technical boost sessions to support pre-enrollment students technology readiness.
  • Own the lifecycle of technical training modules, ensuring all curriculum remains current with Google Workspace, Zoom, Canvas, and security protocols.
  • Maintain robust documentation and workflows for student tech-readiness to ensure institutional sustainability and precise records.
  • Ensure alignment with the academic model by integrating technical support directly into the student's pedagogical experience.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Admissions and Registrar departments to facilitate real-time data sharing on enrollment readiness and technical clearance.
  • Communicate proactively across teams to ensure a unified "warm handoff" for students transitioning from recruitment to enrollment.

Continuous Improvement and Scaling

  • Build automated and standardized processes for tracking, coding, and alerting that can scale as the student population grows.
  • Use data-driven insights and student feedback to continuously refine the effectiveness of academic technology services and identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

The minimum education, experience, or other background required to be considered eligible to apply for, or otherwise perform the duties of the position being applied for.

Candidates must meet all required qualifications to be eligible for employment.

  • 4 years of relevant experience in higher education, student services, or related roles.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be able to communicate complex technical instructions fluently in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability to travel and attend in-person recruitment events and workshops in the greater bay area region.
  • Ability to manage data entry and tracking across multiple platforms, the Student Information System (SIS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) without errors.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Google Workspace, Zoom, and Canvas.
  • Ability to manage change and adapt to evolving needs of the students and program.
  • Ability to work in the evening and weekend to accommodate students' needs and schedules.

Desired Qualifications

Factors, experiences or circumstances that represent additional qualifications supporting fulfillment of the position. Candidates are not required to meet all desired qualifications to be eligible for employment.

  • 2 years of experience supporting adults with educational technology
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) to assist students with prompt engineering for brainstorming and study organization.
  • Troubleshooting technology issues with patience and empathy, recognizing that students have different levels of literacy skills.
  • Ability to explain institutional AI Ethics and Academic Integrity policies to students.
  • Experience helping students navigate responsible AI use, including understanding the difference between AI-assisted research and plagiarism.

COMPENSATION

$44.71 - 51.92 per hour
