Position Overview:
- This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining high-quality standards, and managing a team of machinists and operators. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a commitment to safety and quality.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervision and Management:
- Lead and supervise a team of machinists, operators, and other shop personnel.
- Assign tasks and oversee workflow to meet production schedules.
- Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Production Planning and Coordination:
- Develop and maintain production schedules to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., engineering, quality control, logistics) to ensure smooth production processes.
- Adjust schedules and workforce allocation as needed to address production demands.
- Quality Control and Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure products meet specifications.
- Conduct inspections of machinery, tools, and finished products to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Address and resolve quality issues promptly.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with machinery, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel for complex repairs.
- Training and Development:
- Train new employees in machinery operation, safety procedures, and company standards.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff.
- Keep abreast of advancements in machining technologies and processes.
- Inventory and Resource Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of materials, tools, and supplies.
- Order necessary materials and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Optimize resource usage to minimize waste and reduce costs.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure the machine shop operates in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions.
- Investigate and report any accidents or incidents.
- Must be familiar with, and follow, all standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Knowledge of how and where to locate procedures and forms relevant to this position.

- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required; knowledge of Microsoft NAV preferred.
- Forklift Operator (must pass test)
- Proficiency in operating various types of machinery (CNC machines, lathes, grinders).
- Strong literacy and comprehension skills.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment.
- Completion of company indoctrination.
- Successful completion of safety training programs.
- Understanding of the company’s Quality System and processes.
