What your day looks like:

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this position, the individual will focus on formulation tasks, bringing expertise in creating rations for monogastric species. The role supports overall strategic goals, encourages innovation through the development and enhancement of solutions tailored to the complex needs of the livestock nutrition market. This job requires acting responsibly with confidential information and engaging effectively with a variety of individuals across internal and external teams in a fast-paced, diverse environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Formulations and Ration Balancing (50%):

  • Update customer formulations and feeding guidelines using formulation software. Connect with manufacturing and financial systems for accurate production, pricing, and invoicing.
  • Create and update medicated and non-medicated feed labels to comply with all state and federal legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with the procurement team (Nutrify) to generate weekly ingredient demand forecasts, thereby enhancing the efficiency of ingredient purchasing.
  • Keep up with nutrition and formulation trends and regularly enhance internal processes.
  • Oversee ingredient availability and collaborate with Nutrify to verify that formulations can be produced at each mill.
  • Ensure that requests for formulations and rations from internal and external customers are addressed promptly and in accordance with established procedures.

Technical and Sales Support (40%)

  • Update ingredient matrix values with Wenger Feeds’ Nutrition and Quality Control Lab using supplier, origin, and mill data for accurate formulation.
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Services and Innovation & Research on projects, providing inputs like sample collection, analyses, regulatory coordination, research reviews, and intellectual property evaluation.
  • Work with QC to meet quality standards and support discussions as necessary.

Miscellaneous Support Services (10%)

  • Work with Poultry, Swine, and Nutrition teams to offer technical support to customers as needed.
  • Join strategic planning and customer meetings; organize educational seminars and discussions as needed.
  • Join cross-disciplinary projects and support various teams as needed.
  • Support the manufacturing team with production issues during evenings and weekends as needed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal nutrition.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in ration formulation and ingredient evaluation; hands on with formulation software.
  • Hands on work experience in animal production.
  • Experience or familiarity with manufacturing and distribution is desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication, effective interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect.
  • Be a self-starter; ability to drive things to closure, able to work well both independently and in a team, ability to multi-task in effectively executing responsibilities.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills: using time efficiently; adapting to changes in the work environment; managing competing demands and changing approaches or methods to best fit the situation.
