Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)

Location: Oshkosh, WI 54904

Facility Overview

• Level III Trauma Center
• Level III NICU
• Primary Stroke Center
• Hospital Size: 72 Beds
• Emergency Department: 22 Beds

Position Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience
• First-time travelers welcome
• EPIC experience required

Patient Population

• Pediatric to Geriatric (primarily geriatric)
• General ED cases including chest pain, abdominal pain, and falls
• Pediatric experience preferred, not required

Patient Ratios

• ED RN: 1:3–4 (Days & Nights)

Certifications

Required:

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• NIHSS
• TNCC

Preferred:

• CPI/MOAB
• ENPC

Skills

Required:

• Peripheral IV starts
• Blood cultures (proper technique)
• Chest tubes
• Code Blue response
• Triage experience

Preferred:

• Arterial lines
• Central line placement
• Thoracentesis
• Critical care experience
• Charge nurse experience

Unit Support

• Charge nurse (may occasionally take patients)
• ED Techs, HUC, and shared unit support staff
• Paramedic coverage (mid-shift only)
• Phlebotomy support for difficult/time-sensitive draws
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Mid-level providers: 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Telemetry monitoring at bedside and nurses’ station
• Unit Secretary available 24/7

Systems & Equipment

• EPIC (required)
• Alaris IV pumps
• Pyxis
• Belmont Rapid Infuser (preferred)

Scheduling & Orientation

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• Orientation: Minimum one shift to learn unit flow
• No floating required
• Low census: Travelers called off first
• Time off: Up to 7 days (additional time requires Nurse Manager approval)
• Holiday coverage as needed based on staffing

• Scrubs: Any color (no denim, camo, or logos)
• Parking: Free in designated areas
