Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Machinist to join our team on 1st shift. This role focuses primarily on manual machine operation using manual lathes and manual mills (Mazak experience preferred) to support part fabrication, modification, and production needs. We value hands-on experience with both lathe and mill operations, but we are willing to train the right candidate—including those with limited or no prior machining experience. CNC operation is a plus, and we offer training opportunities to transition into CNC machining as needed.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn in a supportive shop environment. You will work with blueprints, set up tooling, machine precision parts, and use basic measurement equipment to ensure quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes and manual mills (Mazak equipment preferred) to machine metal parts to precise specifications.
  • Perform part making, part modification, prototyping, and repair work as directed.
  • Select, set up, and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices for each job.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Calculate and apply appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters for various materials.
  • Use basic measurement equipment—including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools—to inspect parts during and after machining for accuracy and compliance.
  • Deburr, clean, and finish machined components as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all shop safety protocols and using proper PPE.
  • Assist with general shop tasks, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
  • Document work performed and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Willing to learn and transition into CNC operation with on-the-job training as opportunities arise.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience — Preference given to candidates with hands-on experience operating both manual lathes and manual mills; Mazak equipment experience is highly desirable.
  • CNC Experience — A plus, but not required—we will train qualified candidates on CNC machining.
  • Entry-Level / No Experience — We are open to training motivated individuals with no prior machining experience who demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.) and ability to read measurements in both imperial and metric systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/blueprints (training provided if needed).
  • Catia Experience — A strong plus (e.g., familiarity with viewing models or basic use for part reference).
  • Mechanical aptitude, good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in machining or related field is a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and stand for extended periods.
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision after training.
