EDUCATION: High school or GED; must be a minimum of 21 years of age and possess and maintain a safe driving record; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, provided the age and safe driving record requirements are met.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must complete certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of employment; must pass the pre-employment drug screening; and must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license and F-Endorsement.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately, including ability to read and interpret road signs in English; ability to read, understand, and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Federal Transit Administration and United States Department of Transportation; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish effective professional relationships with customers, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees; ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports; extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s); ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs; ability to perform minor vehicle repairs; skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions; and ability to administer First Aid and CPR.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  2. Ability to see and hear, with or without assistive devices, to perform assigned duties.
  3. Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  4. Ability to work independently, and to organize, plan, and manage time effectively to complete assignments.
  5. Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices, and ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to meet resident needs.
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise judgment.
  7. Strong listening skills and ability to deal with conflict with professionalism and courtesy.
  8. Intermediate computer skills, including ability to create documents in various programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe), and navigate electronic medical record systems.
  9. Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
  10. Dexterity of hands and fingers to perform resident care.
  11. Ability to lift, move, push, or pull a minimum of 25 pounds.

DUTIES:

  1. Operates assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner;
  1. Maintains defensive driving;
  2. Provides a communication link between customers and staff,
  3. Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and secure devices as needed;
  4. Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English;
  5. Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure;
  6. Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and out;
  7. Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management;
  8. Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required;
  9. Fuels the assigned vehicle(s);
  10. Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions;
  11. Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers, and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive;
  12. Provides customers with peer counseling; and
  13. Serves as a positive role model while providing transportation service.
  14. Performs such other duties as may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a responsible non-supervisory position.

Duties include operating and maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy; performing daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary; fueling the vehicles; ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported; documenting customer usage; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary; assisting passengers and handicapped customers in and out of the vehicle; providing safety briefing to customers; and providing other services as requested by management when not engaged in transportation service.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Will work outdoors. Must be able to perform under stress. Sits, stands, operate lifts and walks short distances during the work day. Is subject to frequent interruptions.
