Position Overview
A new 220-seat full-service New American bistro restaurant concept is seeking a talented and experienced Executive Chef to lead all culinary operations. The restaurant will feature indoor and outdoor dining, a large bar program, takeout service, an ice cream window, and private event space, creating a vibrant, family-friendly neighborhood dining destination.
The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, menu development, team leadership, and food quality standards. This role requires a hands-on culinary leader who can manage a high-volume kitchen, develop innovative dishes, and build a strong culinary team while maintaining excellent cost control and operational efficiency.
The menu will highlight New American bistro-style cuisine, including elevated burgers, fresh salads, creative entrées, and a value-oriented kids’ menu designed to appeal to both families and neighborhood guests.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership
- Direct and supervise all kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Design, develop, and refine menu items in collaboration with ownership.
- Execute and maintain recipes, cooking procedures, and kitchen standards.
Kitchen Operations
- Oversee daily food preparation and service to ensure meals are delivered efficiently and at the highest quality.
- Delegate responsibilities to kitchen staff and ensure smooth kitchen workflow during service.
- Monitor food production and maintain consistency across all dishes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train kitchen staff including cooks and kitchen support team members.
- Schedule kitchen staff and manage labor efficiently.
- Foster a positive and professional kitchen culture focused on teamwork and accountability.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage food purchasing, inventory control, and kitchen budgets.
- Analyze recipes and adjust menu items when necessary to maintain food cost targets.
- Maintain accurate production and sales records.
- Implement strategies to minimize food waste and operational loss.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to sanitation and food safety regulations.
- Inspect kitchen equipment, work areas, and ingredients to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and organization throughout the kitchen.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Chef or Executive Chef in a full-service restaurant environment.
- Strong knowledge of New American cuisine, modern cooking techniques, and ingredient-driven menus.
- Hands-on experience with commercial kitchen equipment and high-volume service operations.
- Advanced culinary skills including baking and pastry techniques.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing kitchen teams.
- Strong budgeting, inventory management, and food cost control abilities.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and lead effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Formal culinary training or culinary degree is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 per year
