Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Provide specialized communication support as a Sign Language Interpreter within K-12 educational settings, serving students in both middle and high schools. This full-time, contract position focuses on facilitating effective communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, ensuring their access to the general education curriculum and participation in all classroom activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school events.
- Support students access to academic content alongside their general education peers.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and families to foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all interactions.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet diverse student needs across middle and high school levels.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter with an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher, including a passed written exam.
- Experience working within K-12 educational settings, preferably with middle and high school students.
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language and Deaf culture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a caseload and provide consistent support across multiple schools.
Location: Franklin, Tennessee area, covering middle and high school campuses.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Job Duration: Contract position through the end of the current school year, with a start date as soon as possible and concluding on May 22, 2026.
