As a Physical Therapist (PT) in our school setting, you will play a vital role in helping students thrive in their educational journey. Your expertise will empower children to benefit from special education, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.
Why This Role Matters
As a PT, your mission is to enable children with disabilities to access special education instruction in the least restrictive environment. You will develop, implement, and coordinate individualized physical therapy programs that include:
- Direct services to students
- Consultative services for teachers and staff
Your Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you will:
- Evaluate students through professional observation, therapeutic handling, and interviews with parents, students, and teachers.
- Collaborate with the school team to create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Develop and implement individualized PT intervention strategies.
- Coordinate services with parents, community agencies, and healthcare professionals.
- Document all PT services promptly and accurately.
- Address assistive technology and accessibility needs for students.
- Engage in continuous professional growth and participate in clinical educational opportunities.
- Supervise physical therapy assistants in accordance with state regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
To thrive in this role, you should possess:
- A valid Illinois physical therapy license, renewed every two years with 40 hours of continuing education.
- A degree in physical therapy from an accredited program.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and families.
- The ability to analyze and interpret data as part of a professional team.
