Position Overview
Reach Incorporated is seeking dedicated Program Instructors (PIs) to lead our award-winningAfter-School Tutoring Program in Washington, DC. Program Instructors play a crucial role in ourinnovative literacy model, which prepares teen tutors to serve as reading tutors and mentors forelementary school students.


Hours: Monday-Thursday, 3:30-5:30 PM


Primary Responsibilities
Teen Tutor Training & Support (25%)

  • Lead engaging training sessions for teen tutors on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Model effective literacy instruction techniques and strategies
  • Develop strong, supportive relationships with teen participants
  • Evaluate tutor performance using Reach's established point system
  • Plan and coordinate at least two tutor outings/activities during the year


Tutoring Session Supervision (25%)

  • Oversee tutoring sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Ensure effective implementation of literacy instruction
  • Foster a positive, productive learning environment
  • Address behavior concerns or learning challenges


Program Preparation (20%)

  • Review curriculum materials prior to each session
  • Prepare, organize, and monitor all necessary instructional materials
  • In collaboration with Site Coordinators, track lessons delivered by tutors
  • Participate in staff development training and coaching sessions


Program Evaluation & Improvement (20%)

  • Document session attendance and participant engagement
  • Collect and submit qualitative data on a weekly basis
  • Provide constructive feedback on curriculum and activities
  • Track participant progress and learning outcomes


Parent/Guardian Engagement (10%)

  • Communicate with families as needed; note engagements and outcomes
  • Provide updates on participant progress and program activities
  • Document all parent/guardian interactions in Reach's database
  • Help address family concerns related to the program


Qualifications


  • Passion for Reachs mission, vision, and core values, with a relentless focus on young people's success
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with teens
  • Experience working with youth, particularly those facing academic challenges
  • Excellentfacilitation and instructional abilities
  • Ability to manage groups and create a positive learning environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrable ability to read, comprehend, communicate and adhere to the Reach curriculum
  • Commitment to educational equity and youth development
  • Reliability and consistent attendance



Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with adolescents

Background in education, counseling, social work, or related field
Knowledge of literacy instruction or tutoring methods
Experience in out-of-school-time programming
Part-time professionals with flexible daytime schedules
Understanding of youth development principles
Those committed to understanding and supporting youth academic and personal growth
Creative problem-solving abilities
Data analysis and reporting


Term: School year, with potential for continued employment
