JOB SUMMARY: The Prep Cook’s primary responsibility is to uphold the restaurant’s high standards of excellence by providing the highest quality of service to guests. The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation of meals by preparing cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meats, etc. The Prep Cook is also responsible for preparing simple dishes such as salads and entrees.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Must have the ability to provide professional and courteous guest service.
- Must have good time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must have good organizational skills, the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions and communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude during all interactions.
- Must have a working knowledge of computers and basic math skills.
- Previous kitchen preparation experience preferred, but not required.
- ServSafe Certified Preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists all guests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Performs job duties and responsibilities in a cost-effective manner and within budgetary guidelines.
- Follows prep list and directions as provided by supervisor.
- Assists in the preparation of meals by preparing cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meats, etc.
- Completes basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food, etc.
- Prepares simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.
- Sets up, stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to ensure a smooth service period.
- Is knowledgeable of and complies consistently with restaurant standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and all kitchen policies and procedures.
- Is knowledgeable of all menu items, specials and restaurant offers or promotions.
- Maintains a clean, organized and appropriately stocked work area. Handles, stores and rotates all products appropriately.
- Thoroughly completes any assigned set-up, side work or closing duties.
- Understands and applies all restaurant safety and security procedures as required to maintain a safe and secure environment for associates and guests.
- Keeps supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance coming to his/her attention so prompt corrective action can be taken.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS ANALYSIS:
Summary
The Prep Cook works primarily indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. This position requires continuous standing and walking, and frequent lifting, carrying, bending and reaching throughout entire shift. Hazards may include, but are not limited to, exposure to hot surfaces and appliances, sharp objects (knives), and standard cleaning chemicals. All restaurant employees are required to wear rubber soled shoes and must follow proper safety precautions at all times to avoid injuries.
