Job DescriptionSalary: $21.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Hospital Admissions Experience Needed, Shift: FT 8am-4:30pm; Must Be Available Weekends if needed


POSITION SUMMARY

An admissions clerk is usually the first person a patient deals with upon entering into a hospital. The admissions clerk takes down all the patients personal and medical information along with the reasons for visiting. They store this information for later use and attempt to be as thorough as possible for the sake of the doctors, nurses, patients and family members.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • The requirement for an admissions clerk is to have a GED or a high school diploma.
  • One year previous hospital admitting and business office or equivalent medical industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of hospital computer system.


DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interviews incoming patient or representative and enters information required for admission into computer; Interviews patient or representative to obtain and record name, address, age, religion, persons to notify in case of emergency, attending physician, and individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill.
  • Explains hospital regulations, such as visiting hours.
  • Escorts patient or arranges for escort to assigned room.
  • Enters patient admitting information into computer and routes printed copy to designated department.
  • Obtains signed statement from patient to protect hospitals interest.
  • May assign patient to room.
  • May compile data for occupancy and census records.
  • May store patients valuables.
