Job Description

Job DescriptionJob Title: General Production Worker

Job Description

This role supports the production of precision metallic seals used in aerospace and other high-performance applications. You will operate specialized machinery, perform basic inspections, and handle light, repetitive tasks while ensuring parts meet exact specifications. The position offers clear growth paths into more advanced machine operation, welding, quality inspection, and other technical roles in a clean, low-stress manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate roll formers and polishing lathes to produce metal seals, primarily small parts approximately the size of a hand.
  • Load sheet metal bands onto roll formers, use a foot pump to run the machine, and form metal into circular seals in short production cycles of approximately 10 seconds per part.
  • Inspect parts continuously as they are manufactured to ensure they meet quality and dimensional requirements.
  • Polish seals using sandpaper, either by hand or with polishing machines, to achieve the required finish.
  • Work in the shearing department as needed to cut metal for welders, following instructions and safety procedures.
  • For larger seals (up to approximately 8 feet in diameter), roll and form parts while taking precise measurements using pi tapes and calipers.
  • Help set up machines and adjust tool sets for large seal production, using math skills to calculate measurements down to the thousandth decimal place.
  • Operate semi-automatic TIG welding equipment to join thin strips of sheet metal into bands by aligning seams, initiating the weld cycle, and repeating the process consistently.
  • Maintain focus and attention to detail while working independently in a seated TIG welding position.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections on welds and finished parts, looking for defects such as weld blow-out and other imperfections.
  • Use inspection tools including 10x magnifier loupes, depth gauges, micrometers, and calipers to verify width, thickness, and other critical dimensions.
  • Read job travelers and work orders to determine inspection and production requirements, and provide approval stamps when parts meet specifications.
  • Enter inspection and production data accurately into systems, including basic use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Follow aerospace manufacturing standards and quality expectations, including familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 guidelines where applicable.
  • Read and follow written instructions carefully to avoid over-processing parts and to ensure efficient use of materials and time.
  • Manipulate and handle small parts throughout the shift, using hands and fingers with care and precision.
  • Identify defects and fine details during production and inspection to catch problems early and prevent incorrect batches of seals from being produced.

Essential Skills

  • Prior manufacturing, production, assembly, or general labor experience, particularly in a repetitive, process-driven environment.
  • Aptitude for math, including the ability to perform basic calculations and apply measurements down to the thousandth decimal place for advanced machine operation.
  • Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and pi tapes.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, work orders, and job travelers accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when inspecting welds, dimensions, and surface finishes.
  • Capability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and stay productive without constant direction.
  • Comfort with simple, light, and highly repetitive work, performing the same operations throughout the day.
  • Ability to manipulate and handle small parts consistently, using fine motor skills in hands and fingers.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to see fine defects and details, supported by bi-annual eye exams and vision tests as required for quality inspection and quality control.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and the ability to use Microsoft Excel for recording inspection and production data.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior production or manufacturing experience in a machine operator role, especially for more advanced machine operator tiers.
  • Experience with TIG welding or operating semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.
  • Interest in or experience with inventory, welding, CNC machining, or quality inspection, with the desire to grow into these areas over time.
  • Comfort working in a seated position for most of the shift, with occasional light lifting typically in the 5–10 lb range.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with nearby machine operators while maintaining focus on repetitive tasks.

Why Work Here?

You will contribute directly to components used in jets, rockets, airplanes, and other high-performance systems, creating a strong sense of purpose and impact. The environment emphasizes low stress and trust, with minimal micromanagement and the flexibility to wear headphones while you work. A 4x10 schedule supports work-life balance, with optional Friday hours for those who want additional time. The organization offers a clear growth path with three machine operator tiers and pay increases as you advance, along with opportunities to move into inventory, welding, CNC machining, and quality roles. Internal employees benefit from free vision plans, including free glasses and bi-annual eye exams, supporting both health and job performance. The culture values accommodation and comfort, including options for seated or standing roll former machines based on individual preference, and focuses on light-duty, repetitive work in a clean, well-organized facility.

Work Environment

The facility produces engineered metallic seals used in jet engines and a variety of demanding applications, including lasers, drilling equipment, and environments with extreme temperature, pressure, or oxygen-sensitive conditions. Operations span three adjacent buildings, with many new employees starting in a building focused on high-quantity batch production and additional floors dedicated to custom, one-off seals tailored to specific customer needs. The production areas are very clean, well lit, and designed for light-duty work, with most roles performed while sitting and only occasional lifting of approximately 5–10 lbs. Employees may wear headphones and often sit near other machine operators, creating a setting where people can socialize while maintaining productivity. Bi-annual eye exams and vision tests are part of the environment to ensure that employees can consistently identify fine defects and maintain high quality standards. The workplace includes both seated and standing roll former machines, allowing some flexibility for those who prefer to alternate positions during the day, and emphasizes a repetitive, predictable workflow in a controlled manufacturing setting.
