TITLE: Prodution Maintenance Technician

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform maintenance and sanitation duties on the production line as required by the Standard Operating Procedures and Supervisor direction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Create and maintain all robot and automation controls programs for all equipment.
  • Implement automation opportunities for cost savings.
  • Maintain robotic, control systems, and safety control systems including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Maintain all PLC and software, plant wide. Integrate existing and new equipment, as needed.
  • Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot Motor Controls, including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Assist in the mechanical maintenance of equipment, as needed.
  • Disassemble production filling equipment (remove fill valves, cylinders, hopper, supply hoses).
  • Reassemble and set up production filling equipment (replace fill valves, cylinders, hopper, supply hoses) using hand tools.
  • Setup production lines for specific products (adjust fill volume, set cap height, set date code, and rail width).
  • Learns and begins to develop personal knowledge of proper basic troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and control system problems
  • Safely use appropriate equipment for each repair (welder, hand tools, electrical meter, grinders, etc.)
  • Maintain plant equipment in a technically perfect condition as per SOP’s, Machine Service and Repair Manuals.
  • Log all work and wrench-time on daily work orders and/or in the CMMS
  • Clean equipment as directed, using chemicals, spray hose, etc. after completing maintenance tasks.
  • Use company approved personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for various tasks.
  • Operate a scissor lift to change lamps in high bay fixtures, assist with installing electrical conduits in an overhead ceiling, etc.
  • Perform work in Permitted and Non-Permitted Confined Space, Inside Mixing vessels, Storage Tanks etc.
  • Order equipment parts using a parts requisition form and return to Maintenance Supervisor or Designated Parts Coordinator
  • Work long hours and call-ins as needed.
  • Work in a safe manner always, complying with safety, health, environmental, food and drug regulations, GMPs and company policies.
  • Communicate corrective and preventive issues to managers and coworkers.
  • Cooperate with production personnel to ensure maximum quality and production.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • Mechanical ability.
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical and electrical.
  • Knowledge of MIG and TIG welding.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
  • Carpentry skills.
  • English reading ability for reading and understanding schematics, manuals, building plans, building codes and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of building codes such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Ability to operate a forklift/scissor lift.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, reports, equipment manufacturer instructions and requirements.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to use simple math to measure fill speed, fill rate, etc.
  • Ability to Communicate Clearly
  • Willing and able to work long hours and off-shift.
  • Ability to properly use hand tools.
  • Ability to properly use measuring devices (tape measure, depth gauge, calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Willingness to perform tasks as required.
  • Ability to work with Supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds from the floor level to shoulder height or visa-versa.
  • Stand for up to three hours at a time.
  • Visual acuity see set up, recognize problems, troubleshoot and make repairs.
  • Sit, bend, squat, reach, pull, twist, and turn.
  • Reach forward and overhead.
  • Manual dexterity skills to use hand tools, such as wrench, pliers, sockets, wrenches, socket sets, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Use of power equipment such as welder, hand tools, electrical meter, grinders, etc.
  • Able to use cleaning chemicals.
  • Good eye/hand coordination.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Trade school or technical school training is preferred.
  • 1-2 years previous work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 1-2 years mechanical experience.
  • Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance.
  • Experience with MIG and TIG welding.
  • Familiarity with high-speed packaging and filling equipment.
