Position Overview
The Institute of Technology and Academics (ITA) is seeking a nurturing, organized, and highly motivated K4 Lead Teacher to support early childhood learners in building strong academic, social, and behavioral foundations. The K4 Lead Teacher plays a critical role in preparing students for kindergarten readiness through structured literacy instruction, developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and a positive classroom environment that supports the whole child.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with early childhood learning standards.
- Implement foundational literacy and numeracy instruction that prepares students for kindergarten success.
- Use structured routines and hands-on learning experiences to support early learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse developmental and academic needs.
- Incorporate play-based learning, small-group instruction, and interactive activities into daily lessons.
Student Development
- Support students’ social-emotional growth, independence, and positive behavior skills.
- Teach classroom routines, expectations, and self-regulation strategies.
- Monitor student readiness skills including letter recognition, phonemic awareness, number sense, and fine motor development.
- Provide early intervention supports when needed.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Conduct regular observations and early learning assessments.
- Track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Use school assessment tools (such as STAR Early Literacy when applicable) to monitor growth.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student learning and development.
Classroom Environment
- Create a safe, welcoming, and structured classroom environment.
- Maintain clear routines and transitions that support young learners.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and learning centers.
- Ensure classroom expectations align with school-wide behavior systems.
Family Communication
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and family engagement events.
- Provide families with strategies to support learning at home.
Collaboration & School Participation
- Work closely with Educational Assistants and support staff to meet student needs.
- Collaborate with instructional coaches and administration to strengthen teaching practices.
- Participate in professional development sessions and staff meetings.
- Support school-wide events such as open house, enrollment activities, and family nights.
Professional Responsibilities
- Submit weekly lesson plans aligned with instructional expectations.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
- Follow school policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook.
- Participate in observation and coaching cycles focused on instructional growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (required)
- Valid Wisconsin teaching license (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with preschool or early elementary students preferred
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of early literacy development and kindergarten readiness expectations
