Our client, a well-established municipal utility provider, is looking for a Journeyman Electrical Technician to join their Light and Power Department in Bountiful, UT. A Day in the Life of the Journeyman Electrical Technician
In this role, you'll work alongside the Power Systems Electrical Foreman and a dedicated team to support the reliable operation of the city's electrical infrastructure. From electrical substations and hydroelectric plants to SCADA systems and traffic signal controls, your technical expertise will directly contribute to the power systems that serve the entire community.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform maintenance and operations work on substations and related equipment (transformers, breakers, reclosers, etc.)
- Assist in the design, installation, testing, and repair of relay systems and electrical control circuits
- Maintain and update circuit diagrams, logs, and system records
- Support SCADA system hardware/software maintenance and troubleshooting
- Participate in system studies (e.g., arc flash, fuse coordination)
- Operate and maintain hydroelectric generation equipment and regulatory reporting
- Conduct routine and emergency switching for substations and distribution systems
- Support maintenance of two-way radio communication systems
- Assist with traffic signal controller upkeep
- Step in to support the Metering Department when needed
- Participate in standby/call-out rotations and be available for emergency response
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of technical education in electrical or electronics
- 3+ years of journeyman-level experience in electrical systems
- Completion of an accredited Substation Technician apprenticeship with Journeyman certification
- Must pass background check, driving record check, and pre-employment drug screening
- Able to lift up to 100 lbs., climb structures, and work in all weather conditions
- Availability for 24/7 callouts in all weather conditions
