Position: Technical Writer III
Location: Washington, DC
Pay Rate: $47.03/hour
Position Summary
V-Tech Solutions is seeking a Technical Writer III to support the Epidemiology, Surveillance, & Reporting Unit within the Center for Policy, Planning, and Evaluation (CPPE) at the DC Department of Health. The selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, supporting public health disease surveillance, injury monitoring, geospatial analysis, data visualization, reporting, and evaluation activities. This role requires strong analytical, statistical, and communication skills to support data-driven public health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, designing, and managing injury surveillance and reporting systems for unintentional injuries, including drug overdoses and firearm-related injuries.
- Conduct geospatial, spatial, temporal, and cluster analyses using public health datasets.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools such as ArcGIS and Tableau.
- Maintain reporting applications and support the dissemination of public-facing surveillance data.
- Develop protocols and recommend strategies to improve surveillance data collection, management, monitoring, and reporting processes.
- Support the injury surveillance team in developing geospatial modeling approaches to inform violence prevention and overdose response strategies.
- Perform predictive modeling, risk terrain modeling, and advanced geospatial analyses.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks for injury surveillance activities.
- Provide statistical and geospatial consultation to agency staff on study design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Perform data linkage activities by integrating overdose, violence, and related public health datasets.
- Collect, manage, and maintain patient health data within electronic databases.
- Monitor quality assurance and quality improvement activities related to surveillance data and reporting processes.
- Participate in meetings and conference calls to support project objectives.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for study design, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, and injury surveillance initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on project needs.
Required QualificationsEducation
- Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of public health or epidemiology experience.
- Demonstrated experience using ArcGIS for geospatial analysis is required.
- Experience with business intelligence and data analytics tools such as Tableau is preferred.
- Experience with injury surveillance, disease surveillance, or public health reporting is highly desirable.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS and geospatial analysis.
- Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization platforms.
- Strong statistical analysis and data interpretation skills.
- Knowledge of predictive modeling and risk terrain modeling.
- Experience developing dashboards and public health reports.
- Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Work Schedule
- Up to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
- Weekend and holiday work may be required based on project needs.
Assignment Duration
- Through August 31, 2025, or as otherwise directed by the client.
