Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Bench Chemist to join our team. This is an ideal role for a recent college graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting. The Bench Chemist will support laboratory operations by assisting in product formulation, sample preparation, testing, and maintaining a clean and organized lab environment. This role operates under the direct guidance of the Site Manager/Global Operations Director and Technical Manager, with mentorship from senior technical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing chemical formulations, lab blends, and production trial samples.
  • Conduct routine physical and chemical tests on raw materials, in-process materials, and final products.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of lab activities, test results, and formulation adjustments.
  • Support investigations into product or process non-conformances by performing lab-scale simulations or re-creating batches.
  • Collaborate with production and QC teams to provide technical support for manufacturing processes.
  • Help evaluate new raw materials, alternate sources, or process changes through bench testing.
  • Monitor lab equipment to ensure proper calibration and operation; report issues and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace, including cleaning glassware and restocking supplies.
  • Follow all safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Handle and store chemicals in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines (OSHA, GHS, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry).
  • Strong academic foundation in general, organic, and analytical chemistry.
  • No prior industry experience required—internships, co-ops, or lab coursework preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory instrumentation (pH meter, viscometer, balances, mixers, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to documentation accuracy.
  • Willingness to learn plant processes and interact with production staff.
  • Ability to work safely in a lab that supports a manufacturing environment (PPE required).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Learning & Development:

  • Participate in on-the-job training to learn product development techniques, test methods, and lab processes.
  • Collaborate with lab personnel to gain hands-on experience in formulation, testing, and product evaluations.
  • Support the technical team with customer sample preparation and basic problem-solving.
  • Contribute to team projects and continuous improvement efforts under supervision.

Work Environment:

  • Hands-on laboratory setting, with regular interaction with production, QC, and technical teams.
  • Must be able to lift moderate weights (raw materials and equipment) and stand for extended periods.
  • Safety equipment and training provided as part of onboarding.
