Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Bench Chemist to join our team. This is an ideal role for a recent college graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting. The Bench Chemist will support laboratory operations by assisting in product formulation, sample preparation, testing, and maintaining a clean and organized lab environment. This role operates under the direct guidance of the Site Manager/Global Operations Director and Technical Manager, with mentorship from senior technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing chemical formulations, lab blends, and production trial samples.
- Conduct routine physical and chemical tests on raw materials, in-process materials, and final products.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of lab activities, test results, and formulation adjustments.
- Support investigations into product or process non-conformances by performing lab-scale simulations or re-creating batches.
- Collaborate with production and QC teams to provide technical support for manufacturing processes.
- Help evaluate new raw materials, alternate sources, or process changes through bench testing.
- Monitor lab equipment to ensure proper calibration and operation; report issues and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace, including cleaning glassware and restocking supplies.
- Follow all safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Handle and store chemicals in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines (OSHA, GHS, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry).
- Strong academic foundation in general, organic, and analytical chemistry.
- No prior industry experience required—internships, co-ops, or lab coursework preferred.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory instrumentation (pH meter, viscometer, balances, mixers, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to documentation accuracy.
- Willingness to learn plant processes and interact with production staff.
- Ability to work safely in a lab that supports a manufacturing environment (PPE required).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Learning & Development:
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn product development techniques, test methods, and lab processes.
- Collaborate with lab personnel to gain hands-on experience in formulation, testing, and product evaluations.
- Support the technical team with customer sample preparation and basic problem-solving.
- Contribute to team projects and continuous improvement efforts under supervision.
Work Environment:
- Hands-on laboratory setting, with regular interaction with production, QC, and technical teams.
- Must be able to lift moderate weights (raw materials and equipment) and stand for extended periods.
- Safety equipment and training provided as part of onboarding.
