Job Title: Optician
Job Summary:
We are seeking a friendly and dependable optometric staff member to join our busy multi-doctor optometry practice. The optician assists customers in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses while supporting daily operations in an optical setting. This role requires strong customer service skills and some prior experience in retail, healthcare, or optical environments. The ideal candidate has a basic understanding of eyewear products and is eager to continue developing technical optical skills. Office hours are Mon- Fri 8 AM to 5 PM, no weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in selecting frames and lenses based on prescription, lifestyle, and preferences
- Interpret eyeglass prescriptions with a basic understanding of optical terminology
- Perform measurements such as pupillary distance and segment height
- Adjust, fit, and perform minor repairs on eyeglasses
- Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and proper eyewear care
- Process orders, maintain accurate records, and handle transactions
- Support insurance verification and claims processing (as applicable)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked optical area
- Collaborate with optometrists and team members to ensure quality patient care
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Experience utilizing OfficeMate Software is a plus
- Basic math and problem-solving abilities
- Attention to detail and manual dexterity
Preferred Qualifications:
- Approximately 1 year of experience in an optical, retail, or healthcare setting
- Familiarity with frame styling, lens types, and optical measurements
- Experience with point-of-sale systems or electronic health records
- Interest in pursuing optician certification or licensure
