Quality and Lab Manager:

Key Result Areas:

  • Quality control testing of production samples and release of finished goods, measured through plant “Hold Rate” and On-Time Delivery.
  • Team oriented problem solving of production and customer use issues, measured through On-Time Delivery and Customer Complaints.
  • Provide recommendations for new raw materials based on chemical/process knowledge
  • Conduct chemical/technical analysis of potential new raw materials;
  • Provide chemical/technical analysis of existing raw materials in order to make improvements
  • Development of analytical techniques and testing
  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
  • Complete documentation needed to support testing procedures, including data capture forms, equipment logbooks, or inventory forms.
  • Maintenance of all laboratory instrumentation.
  • Safe operation of the Analytical Lab and improvement of the plant safety culture
  • Supervisory responsibility for the Chemist and Lab Technician
  • Sustains ISO certification elements and plans yearly participation steps

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemistry
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years Analytical Lab operation experience
  • Experimental design and development
  • Capital projects
  • Quality systems interaction (ISO,)

Knowledge:

  • Regarded as local subject matter expert on chemistry and testing methods
  • Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Chemical Analysis: inorganic oxide compounds are the principal materials
  • Analytical Test Lab Methods:
  • Inductively-Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrum (ICP-AES)
    • Combustion elemental analysis
    • Carbon/water analysis
    • Ion-selective electrode
    • Gravimetric
    • Total suspended solids
    • Rapid moisture analysis
  • Process analysis and problem solving as related to lab functions as well as the manufacturing process
  • Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic and algebra,
  • Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
