Position Reporting To – Director of Transportation
Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Director of Transportation, the Transportation Analyst is an integral component of the business team. The Transportation Analyst will be responsible for analyzing the company's transportation and distribution network to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of goods. This role involves data analysis, reporting and process improvement in all areas of transportation and logistics. This role will also collaborate with internal teams and external partners to optimize transportation operations while minimizing cost and distribution.
Essential Functions
- Analyze transportation data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Create executive-level PowerPoint presentations and dashboards to communicate findings, recommendations, and performance metrics to leadership
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including cost per mile, on-time delivery rates, carrier performance, and service levels and develop action plans to achieve targets.
- Collaborate with logistics, warehouse, and supply chain teams to streamline operations.
- Conduct performance evaluations of carriers.
- Assist in resolving any issues or disputes with transportation vendors promptly and effectively.
- Analyze transportation costs and develop strategies to reduce expenses without compromising service quality.
- Track and report on budget performance.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure all transportation activities adhere to safety standards.
- Lead or participate in transportation-related projects, ensuring timely completion and successful implementation.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
Travel
- 5-10% National and International travel will be required.
Overseas Interaction
In this role you may be required to work after hours, as needed, to accommodate meetings with colleagues from head office and vendors who are in different time zones to manage business needs.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, High level Excel, PowerPoint Expertise; experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and data analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present findings clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Accounting, Business, Finance or 5+ years’ experience
- 2+ years analysis experience with Maritime focus
- 2+ years transportation experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Exposure to contract interpretation
- Experience using SAP and Dynamics NAV/Navision or a similar ERP system an asset
- A proven ability to strategically think and ideate combined with a track record of being able to successfully operationalize.
- Knowledge of transportation modes, transportation metrics and transportation rate structures a plus
- Strong business and financial acumen and solid supply chain background
- Experience managing multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously
