Job DescriptionSalary: $30 to $35 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
The Williston Northampton School, an independent coeducational boarding and day school located in Easthampton, MA, has a full-time, calendar-year opening for a Carpenter. The schedule for the position is Monday through Friday 40 hours per week. Occasional special event coverage as necessary. Actual hours assigned per the needs of the department.
The Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures as needed to maintain and improve school facilities. Assists other trades and other departments as needed to meet the requirements of the institution. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: builds, repairs, and installs counter, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim; erects framework for structures (steel stud and wood framing) and lays subflooring materials; lays hardwood, parquet and other types of wood floors; applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative materials to ceilings and walls; fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim; formulates and communicates proposals for potential construction projects that enhance, improve and/or renovate any campus property or area; coordinates and assists work with other tradesmen to minimize conflicts and insure timely completion of assigned tasks. The successful candidate must: have five to seven years experience preferably and be able to work intuitively and independently as well as part of the Facilities team; have strong organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities as situations arise in fast paced environment; have the ability to understand written and oral instruction; have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in order to successfully interact with diverse staff, faculty, students and other constituents of the School; be able to work in secondary boarding school atmosphere by successfully passing CORI, SORI and fingerprint based background checks; possess a valid drivers license.
