Fab Maintenance Technician (6:00am-2:30pm)
Job Description
Job DescriptionAtomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories. Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital—but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler™ technology platform is a multi-process, multi-material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—made possible only through the Matter Compiler™ technology platform—that we will be unveiling to the world soon. Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.About the Role:
This role will begin on the day shift (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM) to support initial ramp-up and training. Within the first six months, it will transition to a permanent first shift, operating from 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
At Atomic Machines, we're pioneering the Matter Compiler™ technology, a first-of-its-kind manufacturing platform built from the ground up. Under the direction of the Equipment Supervisor, you'll partner with Operations and Engineering to optimize, maintain, and enhance the advanced equipment that powers the production of our next-generation MEMS products.
A successful candidate will embrace our values and take ownership of maintaining and troubleshooting the Matter Compiler and other equipment used on our production line.
You will be responsible for sustaining system functionality, performing scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs), responding to unscheduled equipment downtime, and conducting equipment qualification. You will also develop a detailed understanding of Fab processes, ensuring equipment meets or exceeds performance and process criteria.
What You'll Do:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of production and R&D equipment, production automation equipment, production manual equipment, and robotics.
- Partner cross-functionally with our engineering teams to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software issues.
- Execute equipment qualifications, calibrations, and performance verification to ensure uptime, repeatability, and compliance with process requirements.
- Track maintenance activities, equipment status, and repairs in detailed documentation to support traceability and continuous improvement.
- Develop and refine preventive maintenance procedures, spare-parts strategies, and equipment upgrade plans.
- Support installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of manufacturing tools and infrastructure as the facility scales.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and implement improvements in reliability, throughput, and safety.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, modeling best practices for equipment care and facility stewardship.
What You'll Need:
- 5+ years of high tech production machine maintenance experience.
- Experience working on manual and automated systems
- Experience working with systems that use chemicals and knowledge of safe working practices
- Hands-on expertise with mechanical, electrical, PLC, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong first-principles troubleshooting skills and a proven record of repairs and continuous improvement.
- Excellent documentation habits — clear, concise, and accurate recordkeeping.
- Safety-first mindset with knowledge of LOTO and high-voltage/gas safety best practices.
- Startup-ready attitude: positive, flexible, and solutions-oriented.
- Physical capability to continually bend, squat, kneel, lift, twist, climb, reach, stand, and walk during an 8-hour shift; perform repetitive hand motions; frequently lift up to 50 lbs and move over 100 lbs as needed.
- PLC programming understanding a plus.
- A High School diploma is required. A two-year technical degree is a bonus.
Bonus:
- Experience working with gloveboxes in controlled environments.
- Hands-on experience with PVD processes.
- Familiarity with ECP or laser machining technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of CNC machining and control systems.
