Our client, an innovative leader in advanced materials and next-generation manufacturing processes, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team! This role is based at their facility in Northern Virginia and offers the opportunity to join a high-performing team of engineers, machinists, and technicians working on defense-related programs.
Location: Sterling, VA
Compensation: $90,000-$140,000 DOE
Schedule: Mon-Fri, standard business hours.
Responsibilities:
- Support the advancement of research and development programs and prototype portfolios.
- Design, analyze, and validate mechanical systems, materials, and complex assemblies.
- Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and specifications that meet internal and external quality standards.
- Partner closely with machinists, engineering technicians, and materials experts to implement designs and troubleshoot issues.
- Manage technical projects, including planning, resource scheduling, and execution within program requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and design reviews for contract deliverables.
- Interface with government stakeholders and contractors to ensure projects remain aligned with timelines and goals.
- Participate in on-site testing and validation activities as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, and the ability to produce production-ready drawings.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM), particularly for metal components.
- Solid technical writing skills with the ability to present data and design intent clearly.
- Capability to solve complex engineering problems and drive practical, manufacturable solutions.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as the candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Seven or more years of relevant engineering experience.
- An active government security clearance.
- A master's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Experience with materials engineering, advanced materials development, or rapid prototyping.
- Familiarity with manual and CNC machining techniques, GD&T, and MRP systems.
- Experience moving designs from a research and development phase into low-volume production or scale-up.
