A hospital in Fort Myers is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Stepdown Registered Nurse to join its intermediate care team. This role is well-suited for a nurse who thrives in a specialized cardiac environment and is committed to supporting patients through complex post-operative recovery.

Position Overview

The Cardiothoracic Stepdown RN provides focused care for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery in a stepdown or intermediate care setting. This position involves close monitoring of hemodynamic status, early detection of complications, and ongoing support throughout the recovery process. Flexibility is important, as shifts may occasionally extend when surgical cases run late, and floating within the health system may be required, with a designated clinic serving as the primary base location.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to post-operative cardiothoracic patients.
• Monitor hemodynamic status and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Support recovery in a stepdown/intermediate care setting.
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care.
• Respond promptly to patient needs and clinical changes.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient status and interventions.
• Educate patients and families regarding recovery expectations and post-operative care.
• Adapt to staffing needs across the system as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of cardiothoracic stepdown experience within the last 2 years.
• Active Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Strong critical-thinking, assessment, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiac care environment.
• Flexibility with scheduling and floating requirements.
