Driver

Hilltown CDC operates the Hilltown Easy Ride van services and Hilltown Driver Pool to help fill the need for occasional transportation to residents who are 60 years old, disabled, or a veteran to access medical services and other professional appointments, as well as grocery stores.

Drivers for these programs are members of the community. Hilltown Community Development coordinates the rides and provides drivers with an hourly rate and mileage reimbursement. This program is grant-funded, and a permanent, predictable schedule is not the norm. Drivers will provide flexible availability to be matched with ride requests.

The service areas for our program include Blandford, Chester, Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Huntington, Middlefield, Montgomery, Plainfield, Russell, and Worthington. We are seeking drivers from these and neighboring towns willing to use their personal vehicles or participate in driver training to drive our vehicles and provide occasional rides for their neighbors.

Supervised By: Transportation Program Coordinator/Operations Coordinator

Qualifications: Driver’s license, good RMV record and pre-employment CORI. Preference given to those with previous experience in similar med-ride programs. Good References and previous experience volunteering or working with seniors or those with disabilities.

Abilities: Must be friendly, patient, reliable, and responsible, to provide the quality service our program provides, and riders expect from us.

Hours: Requests to drive will be occasional and on an as-needed basis. We cannot guarantee any minimum hours.

Compensation: We pay an hourly rate of $20-$22 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement at $.60 a mile. Hourly and mileage calculations are based on total miles, meaning from the time the driver leaves their house until the driver returns home. We will ONLY pay for trips booked by the transportation coordinator/operations coordinator.

Terms: This is a grant-funded, part-time flexible schedule position subject to sick time hours accumulated per Massachusetts employment laws. Continuation of the position is subject to the status of annual funding.
