Ascent Behavioral Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and dual-focused healthcare professional for the combined role of Infection Preventionist (ICP) / Registered Nurse (RN) at our Millcreek, UT location. The Role: ICP (50% FTE) / RN (50% FTE)
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position combining the leadership and compliance functions of Infection Prevention (IP) with the clinical responsibilities of a Staff Registered Nurse. The role reports to the Nursing Executive and is integral to upholding TJC and CMS standards.
Infection Preventionist (50% FTE) Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership: Develop and implement hospital wide infection surveillance, prevention, and control policies adhering to law, regulation, and nationally recognized guidelines (e.g., CDC).
- Surveillance & Auditing: Lead the prevention and control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs), including auditing staff adherence to IC protocols.
- Training & Competency: Design and deliver competency-based training and education to all staff on IC policies and procedures.
- Risk Management: Implement infectious disease prevention and risk management protocols.
- Compliance: Oversee systems of medication administration and ensure compliance with medical standards for cleaning and disinfection of devices.
- Staff Health: Conduct new employee TB testing and documentation.
Registered Nurse (50% FTE) Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care: Deliver safe, high-quality patient care in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Assessment & Planning: Conduct medical assessments (e.g., skin checks, nutrition reviews) , develop individualized care plans, and monitor patient progress.
- Medication Management: Administer medications and perform phlebotomy as ordered by prescribing providers ; manage and dispense medications safely.
- Coordination: Coordinate psychiatric and medical appointments, ensuring follow-up and continuity of care.
- Communication: Communicate with families/guardians regarding patient needs, medication changes, and treatment updates.
- Milieu & Support: Participate in the therapeutic milieu (e.g., groups, activities) as directed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Requirements
Qualifications Required:
- Licensure: Current valid RN nursing licensure in the state of Utah.
- Certification: CPR and first-aid certification.
- Background: Must pass a federal background check.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment: Ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism and empathy and a commitment to patient safety and ethical standards.
Preferred:
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or progress toward certification.
- Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or healthcare settings.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Additional certifications (CPI, trauma-informed care).
