Position Overview
Lucy School seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative Business Manager to oversee the schools financial, HR, and administrative operations. The Business Manager serves as a key staff resource to the Head of School and supports essential school functions, including finance, personnel, and campus operations. This is a full-time, year-round position.


Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounting

  • Maintain accurate filing, record-keeping, and reporting systems for all school financial matters.
  • Manage the schools accounting system using QuickBooks Online.
  • Reconcile all accounts monthly and prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
  • Administer payroll using BambooHR, including compliance with tax and reporting requirements.
  • Manage tuition collection through the FACTS platform and billing for extracurricular programming.
  • Process billing, reimbursements, and school-related vendor payments.
  • Lead annual budget planning and review in collaboration with the Head of School and Finance Committee.
  • Serve as a financial resource to the Board of Trustees, from budget planning to annual audit coordination.

Human Resources

  • Oversee all HR processes, including onboarding, benefits administration, personnel files, and payroll.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and ensure compliance with State of Maryland employment laws and regulations.
  • Support hiring processes in collaboration with the Head of School, including job postings and background checks.
  • Manage updates to employee handbooks, policies, and workplace compliance practices.
  • Ensure school-wide adherence to employment practices related to wage and hour laws, OSHA regulations, and reporting obligations.


Administrative & Operational

  • Support risk management and insurance policy administration.
  • Provide operational support to the Head of School and leadership team as needed.


Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.Knowledge of QuickBooks Online and payroll processing.Knowledge of financial statement preparation, including balance sheets, income statements, and accounts receivable reporting.Accrual accounting and journal entry experience is mandatory.Knowledge of tuition management systems, such as FACTS.Budgeting preparation.
