SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. We strive to provide success paths toward mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, and employment with a living wage, affordable housing, and ultimately living independently and confidently.
Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly rate for this position is $18.00 to 19.00 per hour.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to the Shalom House Program Manager.
Position Description: The Administrative Assistant provides administrative and housing support for the Shalom House Single Adult Housing Program.
Required: HS/GED; 1-3 years of previous work experience
Preferred: Associate's degree; 3-5 years of previous work experience, 2 years of clerical experience
Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (25 hours per week)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of common office equipment and telephone systems
- Time management skills
- Organizational skills with an attention to detail
- Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to set professional boundaries
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work with diverse audiences
- Ability to type 45 wpm
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrates professionalism and maintains confidentiality while working with sensitive documents
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Expected Contributions: Administrative & Program Administration
- Perform general clerical duties such as copying, filing, faxing, scanning, and mailing
- Answer phones and greet, and assist residents and visitors
- Create and maintain resident charts
- Create, modify, duplicate, and distribute materials and documents as needed
- Assist Managers with filing
- Order supplies for program staff and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies, as needed
- Maintain program logs and statistics
- Assist with coordinating activities and events for residents
- Research and coordinate speakers for resident building meetings
- Support staff on special projects
