Director of Estimating | Heavy Civil & Infrastructure - Sacramento, CA
Planning | Estimating | Scheduling | Collaborative Delivery
A leading heavy civil General Contractor is seeking a Director of Estimating to lead early-phase planning, budgeting, and coordination efforts across large-scale infrastructure projects. This high-impact role requires a strong communicator with a background in estimating, design coordination, and construction planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all preconstruction activities, including early works planning, milestone estimating, and critical scheduling
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, and internal teams to define project scope, schedule, and budget objectives
- Develop detailed cost estimates, track budgets, and manage opinion of probable construction cost (OPCC) processes
- Facilitate design coordination, technical reviews, and subcontractor alignment during preconstruction
- Manage risk register and value engineering processes to drive innovation and cost efficiency
- Oversee project handoff and alignment between preconstruction and operations teams
- Maintain financial tracking, preconstruction invoicing, and documentation accuracy
- Promote collaboration, transparency, and a solutions-oriented mindset across teams
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in preconstruction management or estimating for infrastructure, heavy civil, or design-build projects
- Proficient in budgeting, scheduling, and estimating tools (MS Project, Excel, Bluebeam, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, risks, and value engineering strategies
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work cross-functionally with technical and field teams
