We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team in New Orleans, Louisiana. This short-term contract to permanent position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in accounting and proficiency in Sage BusinessWorks, particularly within the construction industry. The role involves handling a range of financial tasks, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining compliance with local and state regulations.


Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate records for accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely processing of transactions.

• Process weekly payroll for approximately 15 employees while managing comprehensive employee files.

• Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and prepare financial reports as needed.

• Handle sales tax payment submissions to state and local authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations.

• Collaborate with external auditors for tasks such as Worker’s Compensation audits and year-end financial reviews.

• Manage and issue 1099 payments for subcontractors, adhering to all relevant requirements.

• Utilize Sage BusinessWorks and Excel to manage accounting data and generate detailed reports.

• Perform general office duties to support the accounting department and maintain smooth operations.

• Assist with special accounting projects and compliance-related tasks as required.

• Proven experience in bookkeeping, preferably with expertise in construction industry accounting.
• Proficiency in Sage BusinessWorks and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.
• Familiarity with state and local sales tax processes and compliance requirements.
• Experience working alongside external auditors and accounting firms for year-end reporting and audits.
• Ability to manage and track payments for 1099 subcontractors.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
