CNC / TOOLING MACHINIST

The CNC/ Tooling Machinist is responsible for setup and operation of CNC equipment to accurately and efficiently produce machine tooling products to required specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)

Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock;

Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs

Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads

Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position

Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to quality standards

Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes

Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements;

Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs

Documents actions by completing production and quality logs

All other duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to effectively operate and maintain forklift equipment

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend direction in both written and verbal form

Proficient with using measuring devices

Proficient math skills

Outstanding organizational skills

Deftness and attention to detail

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent

2+ years' experience in a similar role

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking

Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing

Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations

Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching

Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds

Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
