This position is an (Retail) Assistant Manager responsible for managing the operations of the California Highway Patrol Academy Recreation Fund, Inc. aka CHP Academy PX.
The PX Assistant Manager reports to the PX Manager and supports the day-to-day retail
operations of the PX store. Working under the supervision of the PX Manager and the PX Board of Directors, the Assistant Manager assists in carrying out operational, administrative, and
customer service functions, and plays a key supporting role in ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high service standards within the PX.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist the PX Manager in supervising and motivating the PX team to increase sales and operational efficiency.
• Support inventory management and help make purchasing recommendations for
seasonal and special occasion merchandise.
• Assist in reviewing sales figures and reports as directed by the PX Manager to support planning and profitability.
• Provide administrative support in employee onboarding, training, and scheduling.
• Help ensure store compliance with health and safety requirements and maintain
customer service standards.
• Support complaint resolution and assist in addressing time-sensitive operational needs.
• Aid in maintaining business insurance records and ensuring compliance with PX policies.
• Support basic accounting tasks, including logging invoices, receipts, and expense reports under the PX Manager's guidance.
• Assist in compiling documentation for quarterly and year-end inventory and nonprofit reporting.
• Help coordinate vendor appointments and maintain supply inventory.
• Attend PX Board meetings as needed and assist with preparing meeting materials and taking notes.
• Support the PX Manager in maintaining website content, POS systems, and promotional programs.
• Assist with Rec Equipment tracking and inventory support.
• Carry out special projects and tasks as requested by the PX Manager or PX Board of
Directors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration or similar discipline.
- Not less than three (3) years of retail managerial experience, including supervision of subordinate staff.
- Proficient with standard business computer tools, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and accounting software such as Quickbooks.
- Ability to lift boxes up to 20 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, and fly and drive to business meetings when necessary. Must have valid California driver's license and automobile insurance for personal vehicles used on PX business.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Knowledge of inventory management principles.
- Ability to operate computers and job-related software programs.
- Ability to build rapport with coworkers, vendors, and members of the general public.
- Ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
