About the Company: Jefferson Hospital has a well-equipped emergency room, which utilizes hospital staff and contract physicians. Support services are provided for both inpatients and outpatients and
the scope of service is consistent with the current mission of the hospital to provide quality community-based primary health care to Jefferson and surrounding counties.
Job Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and coordination of nursing services in a rural hospital setting. This position ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care, while managing nursing personnel and aligning nursing operations with applicable regulations, standards, and financial goals. The DON collaborates with hospital leaders to drive clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all inpatient and outpatient nursing units, including medical-surgical, emergency, behavioral health, and surgical services.
- Plan, organize, and direct nursing activities to ensure adequate staffing, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee staff scheduling, productivity monitoring, and daily clinical resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS and DNV standards.
- Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate nursing staff in collaboration with HR.
- Promote and support continuous professional development and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Monitor and improve patient care quality indicators, including falls, infections, and patient satisfaction.
- Develop and manage the nursing department budget; monitor expenses, labor costs, and resource utilization.
- Serve as a member of the executive leadership team; participate in planning and decision-making to meet organizational goals.
- Collaborate with physicians and department leaders to support integrated, interdisciplinary care.
- Serve as the hospitals nursing leader during regulatory inspections and audits.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, safety programs, and hospital-wide committees.
Position Requirements:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) required
- Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Licensure: Active RN license in the state of Georgia (or a valid compact license).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in nursing with 3 years in a leadership or management role; rural hospital experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and additional certifications as appropriate to department.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; experience with electronic medical records (EMR), budgeting, and quality improvement tools.
