We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Wastewater Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining high standards of water quality. You will play a critical role in safeguarding public health and preserving our ecosystems through effective wastewater management.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control the operations of wastewater treatment systems, including pumps, valves, and chemical feed systems
  • Conduct regular inspections of treatment equipment and processes to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on treatment equipment and systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure efficient operation
  • Collect and analyze samples of wastewater and sludge, interpreting data and adjusting treatment processes as necessary
  • Document operational data, maintenance activities, and compliance reports accurately and timely
  • Respond to emergency situations and troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous service

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in environmental science, wastewater management, or a related field preferred
  • Valid wastewater operator certification or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe
  • 2+ years of experience in wastewater treatment operations or a related field
  • Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes, including biological, chemical, and physical treatment methods

Preferred:

  • Experience with SCADA systems and computerized maintenance management systems
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to wastewater treatment
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment

Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies

  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, blowers, and clarifiers
  • Experience using laboratory equipment for water quality testing and analysis
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and environmental monitoring software
