SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to obtain and prepare blood and urine specimens for analysis and perform various screening tests. Native American Community has a moderate complexity laboratory. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all in-house lab tests independently and accurately
- Perform quality control and preventive maintenance of all lab equipment
- Specimen preparation for send out testing to reference lab
- Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed
- Follow policy and procedure as instructed
- Have knowledge of costs, billing and coding procedures
- Communicate results of tests performed to provider and nursing staff
- Record all procedures appropriately and accurately
- Maintain monthly logs and reports
- Notify patients of normal lab results via phone call/letter
- Assure all biohazard materials are properly disposed of
- Supports regulatory requirements of CLIA, ensuring compliance in all areas
- Conducts phlebotomy for patient care needs
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have good blood drawing skills. Venous and capillary; familiar with obtaining blood from all age groups;
- Knowledge of CLIA regulations;
- Familiar with Quest Diagnostics;
- Respect and sensitivity to the Native American population;
- Able to use initiative; have flexibility and independent work skills.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Does not supervise staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Certified Medical Lab Tech, or eligible for certification
- Minimum of two years of laboratory experience
- High school education or equivalent required
In addition, preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Medical Assistant or phlebotomist
- Community lab experience
