• Demonstrates measurable success improving student achievement.
• Deep understanding of student engagement strategies, especially increasing opportunities for students to respond (this is our focus area for this year and next year).
• Provides specific, actionable feedback through walkthroughs and coaching.
• Uses implementation data to drive professional learning and continuous improvement.

Culture Builder

• Prioritizes safety, respect, rapport, and belonging for students and staff.
• Promotes student voice and leadership.
• Experience with Leader in Me at the secondary level preferred.
• Builds strong adult culture grounded in trust, collaboration, and high expectations.

Collaborative & Skilled Communicator

• Communicates effectively with staff, students, families, the admin team and Superintendent.
• Builds strong partnerships with community stakeholders, including Eastern Iowa Community College, local agencies, business partners, and organizations that support our students.
• Represents the district professionally and positively in all settings.

Operationally Strong & Student-Focused

• Understands systems, compliance, and inclusive practices, including special education.
• Ensures a safe, well-managed learning environment where all students can succeed.

About Maquoketa

Located in beautiful Eastern Iowa, Maquoketa offers a family-centered community. MCSD is part of the River Valley Conference and has approximately 1,300 students. Residents enjoy affordable living and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. The district is conveniently situated near Dubuque and the Quad Cities, providing access to larger metropolitan amenities while maintaining the benefits of a smaller community.
