Job Description
Position Summary: Optimize and improve the injection molding process to maximize efficiency and output related human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, environment and sustainability, cost analysis and production coordination.
Schedule: This position primarily works during standard office hours.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement injection molding processes for new products and tooling, collaboration with product development and design teams;
- Conduct mold flow analyses and simulations to optimize mold designs, part quality and cycle times;
- Collaborate with the process development team to improve part quality and reduce scrap and waste;
- Monitor and analyze process data to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues related to injection molding processes and products;
- Work with tooling engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues with molds and tooling;
- Conduct capability studies and statistical analysis to ensure process stability and capability;
- Establish and maintain process documentation, including manufacturing work instructions, process flow charts and standard operation procedures (SOPs);
- Lead and support continuous improvement projects to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality in injection molding operations;
- Train and mentor production operators and leads on injection molding processes and techniques;
- Participate in design reviews to provide input on manufacturability and process feasibility;
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and practices related to injection molding;
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in injection molding technology to recommend innovative solutions for process improvement;
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 1 year engineering-related experience in Injection Molding or Medical Device Manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of injection molding processes, mold design and material processing.
- Experience with mold flow analysis software and simulation tools.
- Proficient in statistical analysis and process control methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in injection molding processes.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and ISO standards related to injection molding and manufacturing.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
- Proficiency in CAD software for mold design and modification.

Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: Ability to move around the production area(s) to access different machines, workstations, and production lines. Involves standing or walking for periods while observing production processes, troubleshooting issues, and collaboration with production teams.
- Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components, adjusting machine settings, and performing equipment maintenance.
- Visual Acuity: Strong vision is necessary for inspecting molds, parts and machine components for defects, as well as reading technical drawings for specifications.
- Comfort with Heat and Noise: Injection molding machines can generate heat and noise during operation.
- Lifting Capacity: While not a primary requirement, some occasional listing of tooling or equipment may be necessary. Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
- Ability to Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ability to wear appropriate PPE, such as safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection to ensure their safety in the manufacturing environment.
