JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall direction of home health clinical services. The Director establishes, initiates, implements and evaluates goals and objectives for home health quality services which meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by agency personnel.

2. Provides guidance and counseling to staff and clinical managers to assist them in continually improving all aspects of home health care services, provided through agency personnel.

3. Assists Nurse Managers/Team Leaders in managing clinical teams and planning if applicable.

4. Provides help in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated.

5. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume, which could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.

6. Evaluates performance of nurse managers and office support staff.

7. Assists Nurse Managers/Team Leaders with developing skills and techniques in evaluating the performance of clinicians if applicable.

8. Hires, evaluates and terminates agency personnel.

9. Delegates the task of clinician performance evaluations annually or more frequently if indicated.

10. Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of agency activities.

11. Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state and federal laws.

12. Responsible for the maintenance of adequate and appropriate inventory supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.

13. Develops, implements and evaluates the orientation program for new agency personnel. Responsible for orientation of new agency personnel, either directly or by delegating to another staff member.

14. Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs with the Clinical Management Team to meet education and training needs of agency personnel.

15. Assists with the evaluation of agency performance via performance improvement program, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews. Ensures high quality and safe delivery of services provided.

16. Assists in the development of agency goals. Develops, recommends, and administers agency policies and procedures.

17. Ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of agency personnel as applicable.

a. FL: Establishes a process to verify skilled nursing services were provided and will compile a daily report of services provided by a specific direct employee or contracted staff member upon request.

18. Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing and home health care, shares information with appropriate agency personnel.

19. Promotes home health referrals in the health care community.

20. Coordinates the annual Professional Advisory Committee meeting as applicable.

21. Demonstrates behaviors that support the Company. mission and values.

22. In the absence of the Administrator, will become the acting Administrator and will be vested with authority to act in behalf of the Administrator.

23. Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. Directs support functions.

24. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Organizational/attention to detail

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal

• Accurate keyboarding

• PC/Software literate

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

1. Current and unrestricted Registered nurse license in the state of practice.

2. Has a baccalaureate degree from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing. Master’s degree in health care preferred. In lieu of a BSN, 10 years of progressively more responsibility as an RN plus at least two (2) years supervising nurses.

3. At least five (5) years of management experience in home health or related health care organization.

4. Complies with accepted professional standards and practice.

5. Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct clinical, professional and administrative personnel.

6. Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.

7. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and agency requirements and is in good working order.

8. Has excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.

9. Is self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision.

10. Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations and ACHC standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in an office environment, as well as settings throughout the system and surrounding communities. Independent travel may be required.

• Consistently communicates and converses with leadership, employees and clients to exchange accurate information.

• Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer in order to enter, transcribe, record, store or maintain information in written or electronic forms in order to manage patient care and generate reports.

• Regularly lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 20 pounds to transport supplies.

• Consistently uses visual and hearing to assess patients.

• Regularly lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions patients of various weights from newborn to geriatric.

• Ability to travel independently to attend various business meetings and to see patients.
