Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking a Physical Therapist with 2+ years of experience for an acute care hospital in rural Kauai, HI, covering inpatient and outpatient settings across multiple units including ICU, SNF, ER, and an outpatient PT clinic.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Rural hospital setting on Kauai, HI, serving inpatient (25%) and outpatient (75%) populations
  • Inpatient coverage spans the ER, ICU, Med/Surg (acute, observation, and SNF), and occasionally OB
  • Extensive work in a hospital-based outpatient PT clinic
  • Outpatient diagnoses vary broadly; inpatient focus includes acute-to-SNF mobility progression and discharge planning
  • Patient load ranges from 5 to 15 patients per day, scheduled every 30–45 minutes with 1-hour slots for new evaluations
  • Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (with a 12:00–1:00 PM lunch break); some flexibility in work hours may occur
  • Saturday availability is required — no exceptions
  • Primary responsibilities include PT evaluations and treatments across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Two-day orientation provided: day one covers HR onboarding, safety, risk and quality management, compliance education, and IT orientation (begins at 7:30 AM); day two is dedicated to EMR training
  • The rural Kauai setting demands a high degree of clinical independence and adaptability across diverse patient populations
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required for this position

  • Minimum 2 years of recent physical therapy experience required
  • Experience across inpatient (acute, ICU, SNF) and outpatient settings required
  • Active Hawaii PT license required — candidates should obtain licensure as soon as possible if not already held; license required if applicable
  • Current BLS/BCLS certification required
  • Must be able to work independently in a rural setting with a thorough, well-rounded clinical approach
  • Knowledge of discharge planning required
