Health Sciences / Outreach Librarian
The Health Sciences/Outreach Librarian is a faculty position that works under the direction of the Library Director to support health sciences programs through instruction, research assistance, collection development, orientations, and systematic review support. The librarian works collaboratively with other librarians to serve students, faculty, and staff in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and in the College of Health Sciences, including Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and Radiologic Technology programs.
This position also serves as the Outreach Librarian, coordinating library programs and events and providing library support for academic enrichment initiatives, student success programs, wellness initiatives, and campus or community events. The librarian participates in general reference and instruction services and serves as back-up support for interlibrary loan services.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the College of Osteopathic Medicine by providing library instruction, reference, and research support in collaboration with another librarian.
- Serve as the primary librarian for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiologic Technology programs, including orientations, classroom instruction, research support, collection development, online guides, and systematic review assistance.
- Provide research and reference support to faculty in clinical, academic, and graduate medical education areas.
- Serve as back-up support for additional health sciences programs as needed.
- Collaborate with the School of Nursing librarian to support nursing students, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in selecting, purchasing, and renewing library databases and journals.
- Coordinate library programs, outreach activities, and special events.
- Serve as back-up to interlibrary loan services.
- Participate in general reference services, instruction, and library planning activities.
- Maintain professional knowledge through conferences, workshops, and ongoing professional development.
- Participate in campus meetings, committees, and faculty activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program
- Professional experience as a librarian
- Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of electronic resources and web-based technologies
Preferred
- Background in health sciences
- Experience in an academic or medical library
- Experience with medical or allied health resources and instruction
