Job DescriptionDescription:
Provide instructional support to students and assist the Special Education Teacher in the educational process of all students in both instructional and non-instructional activities. Assist the Special Education Teacher in working directly with children (if required) in small groups or on a one-to-one basis.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform duties under the direct supervision of the assigned teachers.
- Implement tutorial sessions, taking students to restrooms, transferring students to and from classes and preparing class work.
- Assist students with activities as directed by the teacher(s).
- Assist individual students in the classroom, as well as tutor students individually.
- Assist and support the student’s instructional processes as planned by the supervising teacher(s) and gather and record data.
- Support and implement the discipline philosophy of the Academy, as well as disciplinary procedures designed for individual students.
- Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Code and administrative and/or Academy policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students.
- Maintain positive relationships with all students, Academy staff and parents.
- Comply with State Law and Academy policies and regulations.
- Maintain a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
- Adhere to policy and procedures set forth by AIMS for schedules, break time, lunchtime and duty.
- Facilitate group work during differentiated lessons.
- Attend and participate in all required in-service training sessions and become familiar with the inclusion philosophy and procedures as outlined in AIMS’ policy.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Requirements:
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and?mathematics;?or
- Knowledge of and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness?and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
- Communication skills – ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
- Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety Legislation.
