Job DescriptionDescription:

The Authorization Specialist is responsible for ensuring the insurance authorization process is completed and updated for patients in a timely and efficient manner. This position obtains authorization for treatment, documents findings and communicates with therapists and patient responsible parties.

In this role, you will play an important part in helping children and their families receive the therapy services that they need in a fun and exciting location!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Obtains and verifies authorization for treatment from insurance companies for new and existing patients.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of information requested; confirms all supporting documents are present.
  • Documents authorizations for treatment into patient’s electronic medical records; communicates information to therapists and patient legal guardian.
  • Assist with medical necessity documentation to expedite approvals and ensure follow-up is performed.
  • Monitors assigned patient records to ensure prescriptions for treatment are not close to expiration; contact physician’s office as needed to obtain updated prescriptions for treatment.
  • Timely and accurate review of all prescriptions to ensure authorization the authorization and diagnosis match, level and number of visits match, and information is entered correctly into patient’s EMR chart.
  • Monitor assigned to ensure authorization for treatment are not nearing expiration; obtain treatment authorizations from insurance companies as necessary.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Education (include, but are not limited to):

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have at least two years of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior electronic medical records (EMR) experience helpful.
  • Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
