Beacon is a successful and national private-equity behavioral health company providing residential-based services and supports to children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Severe Mental Illness, Autism, and high-acuity behaviors. Position Summary:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the nursing department and ensuring high-quality patient care. The DON manages nursing staff, develops and implements policies, ensures compliance with regulations, and works to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of nursing services. This position involves leadership, budgeting, staffing, strategic planning, and fostering a collaborative environment between the medical department and other employees. The Director of Nursing also plays a key role in developing and maintaining standards of care for our individuals, education, and training programs for staff, and advocating for the needs and safety of the individuals served.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Promote “One Team” across the state, where medical, clinical, and our operation’s teams work together to achieve the highest quality of care and support possible.
  • Implement and monitor compliance with proven medical/nursing best practice standards of care across the market to provide the most impact in improving the health, behaviors and outcomes for our Individuals. Standards of care include, but are not limited to admission protocols, assessment of needs, staffing, services, training, and interventions.
  • Participate in the accreditation process and ensure adherence to medical policies and procedures.
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to develop and integrate Beacon’s Clinical Dashboards into regular practice to measure our effectiveness at managing our individuals’ health.
  • Monitor and utilize data to drive sound medical priorities, decisions, and performance improvement initiatives to positively impact key performance metrics including medication errors, medication administration, medication compliance, ED visits, hospitalizations, recidivism, medical/clinical IR/ERs, physicals, physician appointments, and social determinants of health.
  • Promote the medical team and their involvement in the homes and with our individuals to decrease and/or eliminate health crisis situations, unnecessary ED visits and inpatient hospitalizations.
  • Ensure Nursing/Medical staff establish and monitor the regular practice of critical incident debriefings at each home to assist in effective shift transitions.
  • Ensure continuity of care and the medical team adheres to post-hospitalization/ED visit plans that enhance and support recovery for the individual served in advance of and during their return home.
  • Collaborate with training and nursing teams across the market to enhance and reinforce nursing/medical training.
  • Promote positive support whenever possible and capture “whole person” data on each Individual being supported including the person’s trauma history, strengths, positive attributes, likes, dislikes, talents, and interests. Build plans of service to include and support these attributes.
  • Promote annual flu campaign across the market ensuring medical team promotes and educates staff on flu prevention and vaccinations and responsible for tracking the data and reporting this to the VPO
  • Infection control education, prevention, and intervention including infection monitoring, recording, and reporting as required by the organization and accreditation expectations.
  • Responsible for collecting data and reporting on this quarterly and revisions needed for the annual infection control plan.
  • Meet with medical/nursing team weekly to review any leadership updates and offer support to the team as needed.

  • Responsible for ensuring each nurse completes a monthly nurse note and all required duties are adhered to.
  • Submits weekly summary to VPO with an overview of tasks completed.
  • Monitoring of all choking and fall incidents and timely reporting.
  • Monitor the medically fragile list.
  • Ensure On-call follow-up and notes are written-and provide weekly summaries of issues/concerns addressed.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Valid RN license in Michigan with a minimum of 3-5 years previous leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Maintains own mandatory training and certification requirements.
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language.
  • Approved by state, federal and government entities to work within BSLS programs.
  • Ability to use office equipment, including BSLS information technology systems.
  • Ability to physically and emotionally work with individuals who possess mental illness and co- occurring disorders.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong computer skills utilizing various software programs and applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create professional employee communication materials.
  • Capable of working well with all levels of the organization.
  • A professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work with little daily supervision.


Work Environment:

Remote + travel


Travel:

Occasional travel of about 30-40% travel.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
