Family Service Coordinator – Head Start

1 FTE (40 hours/week)

SUMMARY

The Family Service Coordinator empowers individuals and families to achieve their personal life goals by providing support and connecting them with resources from the CAP Agency and local communities. The FSC offers services based on each person’s unique situation and will vary according to individual needs and progress toward achieving goals. Community involvement is key, ensuring that families build lasting supportive connections and relationships where they live.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct regular home visits to assess family needs, support goal setting, and maintain strong relationships with caregivers.
  • Complete and manage enrollment paperwork in accordance with Head Start guidelines, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide individualized case management services to families facing barriers.
  • Connect families to appropriate community resources and follow up to ensure access and effectiveness of referrals.
  • Use the ChildPlus data system to maintain up-to-date and accurate records on family engagement, services provided, and follow-up activities.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, health professionals, and administrative teams to support holistic services for children and their families.
  • Facilitate and encourage family participation in program governance, parent meetings, and volunteering in a classroom.
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts to maintain full program enrollment.
  • Assist with organizing family events, parent education opportunities, and transition planning for children entering kindergarten.
  • Fax, file, and maintain accurate and confidential records related to health, education, and social services, as well as any other resources or referrals provided to meet family needs.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) to manage communication, documentation, and reporting tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all Head Start Performance Standards, agency policies, and applicable regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Degree/license in Social Work preferred. Four years post-secondary education in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent training and experience may be considered. Two years of related work experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a combination of office, classroom, and home visit environments.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Requires frequent walking, bending, lifting, and reaching in classroom and community settings.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., files, supplies, or materials for family events).
  • Requires daily use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to travel locally to conduct home visits, attend community meetings, or participate in outreach activities.
  • May be required to interact with children in a classroom environment, which includes sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary for family events, recruitment, or emergency family support.
